除了陆路交通,漕运也是主要交通方式之一。清朝每年运粮漕船两万余艘,首尾衔接十几里,伴随浩浩荡荡宏伟船队的,是此起彼伏,气势磅礴的号子声。光绪末年,漕运废除,通州码头地位逐渐消失,但在运河上民间的客货运输直到1943年,运河因大旱断流才停止。
