农历九月初九为重阳节,人们在这一天登高远眺,视野为之开阔,心怀也为之宽广。皇家登高,主要在万岁山(今景山),后又在御花园的堆秀山。民间登高,不只局限在香山、西山八大处等高山,还有法藏寺的高塔,显灵宫、报国寺的高阁,天宁寺、陶然亭等地。重阳节除了登高,还要赏菊。民国后,皇家园林开始向百姓开放。北海公园、中山公园、万牲园等地都是市民赏菊的好去处。
Lunar September 9th is known as Double Ninth Festival, on this day, people preferred to climb the top, which made them have broad vision and open-mindedness. The imperial family would choose to climb Wansuishan Mountain (called Jingshan Mountain), later on, this activity was changed to Duixiushan Mountain in the imperial garden. The ordinary people preferred to not only Xiangshan, Xishan Mountain, Eight Great Temples of West Hills, but also high tower of Fazang Temple, Xianling Gong, high-shelf of Baoguo Temple, Tianning Temple, and Taoran Pavilion. Besides climbing mountain, admiring chrysanthemum was also a traditional custom. After the Republic of China, the imperial garden began to open to public. Currently, Beihai Park, Zhongshan Park and Wansheng Park were all popular place for public to admire chrysanthemum.
