北宁铁路管理局局长陈觉生逝世后，丧礼表面上是由其家族承办的民葬，实际是由北宁铁路管理局举办的官葬，还特别组成了治丧处，负责料理葬事。按北京民间传统丧礼办理，而且求全求大，各尽其奢，以示表彰其生前功绩。殡列最前面是高两丈一尺的“旌德亭”，其后还有以素彩绸布扎成的匾额亭数十座，六十四人大杠抬着陈氏灵柩。沿途观者人山人海，每个路口均被挤得水泄不通，车辆只得停驶。座商、摊贩均自动停止营业，看殡而不售货。
